RepriseWe now know what that enigmatic countdown timer on the late Tom Petty's official website was all about. A new 60-track box set called An American Treasure -- featuring previously unreleased tracks, rarities, alternate versions of well-known tunes, deep cuts and live performances -- will hit stores on September 28.

Petty's daughter Adria and wife Dana executive-produced the compilation and curated the project along with founding Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and keyboardist Benmont Tench, along with Tom's frequent studio collaborator Ryan Ulyate. Campbell, Tench, and Ulyate also co-produced the career-spanning collection.

In a joint statement about the compilation, Adria and Dana say, "Everyone involved in this project chose each track with tremendous care and deep respect for the body of work Tom Petty created over the course of 40 years. He also accumulated a wealth of unreleased music in his vaults, and we have collectively uncovered one gem after another that will keep us all listening and discovering new facets of Tom's talent for many years to come."

The collection will be available in multiple configurations, including a Super Deluxe Limited Edition box set featuring four CDs, an 84-page hardbound book, a lithograph of the cover art and replicas of four handwritten Petty lyric sheets. An American Treasure also will be released as a standard two-CD set and a Deluxe Edition featuring the four CDs and a 54-page book. In addition, a six-LP vinyl package featuring the 60 tracks can be pre-ordered now and will be released on November 23.

An American Treasure's first single is "Keep a Little Soul," a previously unreleased Petty and the Heartbreakers recording from 1982. Watch a video for the track featuring previously unseen footage of the group at Tom's official YouTube channel.
