Steve Miller’s Fly Like an Eagle spent all of March 1977 in the Top 10. Miller wrote the song, which his band first recorded in 1973. This was the second version and the title track from their ninth album.
Steve Miller talks about Fly Like an Eagle: “It’s an amazing song. It’s the heart and soul of the band, and it was developed over about a three year period of playing it live and finally recording it. And it’s been recorded by a lot of people, The Neville Brothers did it, Nancy Wilson, Seal, of course, did it. The really great thing about it is that it has this really nice section in it where you can jam, so it’s never the same. It’s always different; each performance of it is different."
The song was used in U.S. Postal Service commercials between 1998 and 2002.and Seal's cover of it was used in the 1996 Michael Jordan movie Space Jam.
